Plein Air Painting
One day recently I set up next to the water to paint this view of the Piscataqua Cafe in Newcastle, NH. I wanted to capture the light on the building and keep it as the focal point. Its always a challenge to stay with the original idea for me because I keep noticing more and more interesting things as I am painting, not to mention the changing conditions when painting outside. In the end I think I accomplished what I set out to do and it was such a great way to spend an afternoon! Lucky! The photo on the bottom is the finished painting:

Happy Halloween!
Happy Halloween! My plein air set up at a cemetery in Dover NH. For some reason they had the most brilliantly colored foliage! As you can see from the finished piece, I chose to leave out the headstones, not sure I would want to look at them everyday. Great place to paint though, very quiet, just the sound of the wind blowing the leaves, typical fall day in New England.
Fall Foilage 11x14 oil 800. framed plus shipping

Plein Air
Yesterday painted from my mobile studio setup from the back of my jeep. I have the hatch open with an umbrella bungeed to the top for shade and just pull over to the side of the road when the inspiration hits. I have painted here in York, Maine, many times this summer. I was making it a mission to study water and reflections. Its a tough job but somebody has to do it!

Girl In The Green Gown
Girl In The Green Gown
6x6 oil 175.
This was another painting of the model from my Tuesday group at the studio. It is so helpful to be able to do these small painting from life and to be able to study the skin tone and postures. Occasionally I will do a larger one in the studio from these studies and reference photos.

Painting the model
Tamara
6x6 oil 175.
I have been working on small panels, 6x6 inches in anticipation of an upcoming show at the Randy Higbee Gallery in CA. There was a limited number to submit and this was one I chose to keep out of that show. I have been painting this model, Tamara, for the last several weeks and have a few paintings
I will put on here including the one that got into that show. Usually I would work on one small like this one and a large one which I would finish up after the session in my studio. It was interesting to work on it after she had left, just from memory and trying to just make a good painting rather than a total likeness of the model.

Not so small work
The Butcher and His Apprentice
11x14 oil 900.
This painting is being published in the April edition of American Art Collector Magazine. I thought I would just put it out there in case anyone cares to check it out. I have recently finished another larger painting of an interior bar scene which I will post here soon also.

Waiting
8 x10 oil
200.
This painting was done from a series I had done of people shopping. This particular guy was in Milan outside one of the shops, waiting calmly while the dog was a little more anxious. I tried to capture the contrast in their postures as well as the wonderful colors of that scene.

Stop In The Name of Love
6x6 oil 100.
This is the revised edition of the photo of this painting which has a lot more blue in it and is truer to the actual color than the photo I had previously posted here. Maybe I should have retitled it as - Love Is Blind!

The Couples Series
Kisses
6x6 oil 150.
I tried to publish this one for Valentine's Day but somehow it didn't show up yesterday. I was trying to stretch my imagination for different types of subjects for the couple series. This one came easily since the candy was right there in front of me. I liked the glow that the silver one took on from being next to the red. Reminded me of a blush.
